Woodburn Deputy Police Chief and acting Chief Marty Pilcher has been promoted to full-time chief.

Interim Police Chief Marty Pilcher has been hired as the Woodburn Police Department's next chief.

Pilcher has been serving as acting Police Chief since the retirement of Jim Ferraris last March. He began with WPD on Feb. 27, 2017.

Prior to Woodburn, Pilcher served 28 years as a police officer in California, retiring as a Lieutenant of the Elk Grove Police Department. During his career, Pilcher has served in a wide variety of assignments, including patrol, investigations, traffic and SWAT.

"It is clear that Marty brings the integrity, professionalism, experience and leadership that will continue to take our community and organization into the future," Woodburn City Administrator Scott Derickson said. "I feel fortunate to have Marty on board and as part of our team."

Pilcher is scheduled to be formally appointed to the position during the Oct. 11 Woodburn City Council meeting.
