Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to a fatal crash Sunday on McKay Road east of French Prairie

A McMinnville man died Sunday morning, Dec, 12, following crash in the French Prairie area.

Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene at about 10:22 a.m. after witnesses reported the crash via 911.

A Marion County multi-agency crash-team investigation determined that the two-vehicle crash occurred on McKay Road NE, east of the French Prairie Road NE intersection. A blue Ford Focus driven by Anthony Skibba, 22, of McMinnville was traveling east when the vehicle crossed the centerline and crashed into a white Toyota Tacoma driven by Carmelo Rodriguez, 62, of Colorado.

Skibba succumbed to injuries from the crash. Rodriguez was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

The general area of the crash has been an ongoing safety concern, eliciting significant discussion in recent years as area residents often shared anecdotes of encounters with speeding motorists as traffic fatalities mounted, especially since the opening of the Dundee Bypass in Yamhill County. Earlier this year that part of Marion County was declared the McKay/Yergen/Ehlen Safety Corridor.

MCSO was assisted by Keizer Police Department, Marion County District Attorney's Office, Marion County Medical Examiner's Office, Marion County Public Works, METCOM 911, St. Paul Fire District, Willamette Valley Communications Center and Woodburn Ambulance during this response.
