PetSmart Charities furnishes Willamette Humane Society with a $75,000 grant to help with pet adoptions

Willamette Humane Society announced that it received at $75,000 grant from PetSmart Charities, which will serve to fortify pet adoptions.

WHS took in more than 2,500 animals in 2021, and many of the dogs and cats needed medical attention before becoming eligible for adoption. Most needed spaying or neutering.COURTESY PHOTO: WILLAMETTE HUMANE SOCIETY - Kittens awaiting adoption at an animal shelter.

"We have a skilled medical team ready to help dogs and cats prepare for loving homes, but that work can be expensive," WHS Development and Community Engagement Director Erin Weldon said. "We're so thankful for grants like this. The funds help us provide the care animals need so they can move on to healthier, happier futures."

PetSmart Charities Adoption Grants Manager Heidi Fulcher said animal shelters are vital.

"Some five million animals find their way to shelters each year," Fulcher said. "As an organization dedicated to promoting the human animal bond, we're thrilled to support local partners such as the Willamette Humane Society. Together, we can help adoptable pets receive vital care, along with the best chance of finding loving homes, which builds healthier families and communities."

PetSmart Charities has helped an estimated 9 million pets find homes over the past several decades. It has donated nearly $400 million to help preserve families, to improve access to veterinary care and to connect people and pets through agencies like WHS.
