PMG FILE PHOTO - Trapeze artist Simone is a 16-year veteran of aerial performances and is one of many acts with the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus coming to Gervais on May 22., On its webpage, the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus boasts that for 32 weeks of the year it brings action-packed family entertainment to some 200 towns in 17 states.

Gervais will be among those towns this year.

The C&M Circus has two shows scheduled in Gervais: 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 22, in the field behind Gervais Elementary School. The day's event includes a 9:30 a.m. tent raising and tour, and a midway that opens at 1 p.m.PMG FILE PHOTO - The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus last visited Gervais in 2019. It will be in town for two shows Sunday, May 22.

Gervais City Manager Susie Marston said the Gervais Community Progress Team has hosted the circus in the past.

"The last Gervais show was in 2019. There's a lot of excitement in the community about having the circus come back," Marston said.

The circus will be in Oregon a total of 11 days with shows scheduled consecutively for Lakeview, Merrill, Eagle Point, Glendale, Myrtle Point, Sutherlin, Cottage Grove, Coburg, Brownsville and Turner before coming to Gervais. It heads to Washington following the Gervais performances.

On May 22, everyone is invited to turn out to the field and watch the big-top rise, tour the grounds, get a glimpse of circus life on the road, see the animals, learn about their care and get a behind-the-scenes look at the show.

Once the midway opens, there will be pony rides, a moon bounce, giant slide, face painting, concessions and the box office will be open.

C&M Circus organizers said they have been entertaining communities for 37 years.

The circus flyer notes:

"This authentic one-ring, big top circus has been featured on the A&E Special: 'Under the Big Top;' Nick News: 'On the Road with Circus Kids,' and most recently OETA's 'Big Top Town.' This year we're very excited to bring you our brand-new 2022 performance featuring Big Cats presented by Trey Key, our Aerialists Extraordinaire, Simone and Kelly, 10th generation Loyal Bareback Horse Riders, the Perez Daredevil Duo on the Tight Rope and Wheel of Destiny, everyone's favorite Circus Clown Leo Acton and Brandon Ayala on the Rola Bola."

Advance tickets cost $12 for adults; $7 for ages 2 to 12 and seniors 65 and older. Tickets go on sale at the box office an hour before each show and are $15 and $8 respectively.

C&M Circus officials encourage ordering tickets ahead of time, noting that a higher percentage of advanced ticket revenue goes back to the sponsor, meaning more money will go back into the Gervais community. Moreover, those who order ahead of time can skip the box office lines and have more time to enjoy the event.
