Taste of Woodburn on tap
One more community event is returning after pandemic hiatus, and this one aims to be a palate pleaser.
City of Woodburn officials recently announced that the 2022 Taste of Woodburn will take place from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 11, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 12, in the Downtown Plaza, First Street between Hayes and Garfield streets.
While it is a Woodburn community event, organizers invite anyone and everyone with a penchant to sample culture through the taste buds to stop in. The family-friendly Taste features staple foods from different regions of Mexico, along with Russian and American foods. While the event takes place in the plaza, the greater Woodburn downtown area offers a variety of culture and cuisine within walking distance.
Beyond the vittles, the event includes live entertainment and local vendors.
City sources said that the first Taste was held in 2018 and lured more than 2,000 visitors who attended to eat, dance and enjoy the festive atmosphere.
"We are looking forward to bringing this event back to our community in 2022, and to all of those visitors who enjoy the great tastes of Woodburn," Woodburn Economic Development Director Jamie Johnk said.
The entertainment: Music and entertainment range from traditional Mexican music and folkloric dancing, rock bands and acoustic music. On Saturday, groups include the Woodburn High School Mariachi Band, Gypsy Marshall, Papa Smoke, A Cara O Cruz Band and Los Rebeldez. On Sunday, groups include the Woodburn School District's Ballet Folklorico, Billy and the Rockets and El Candente Fogonazo Musical.
The vendors: Vendors from around the region will be selling hand-crafted items and gifts.
Organizers said they encourage locals and visitors alike to meet friends at the downtown plaza, or make new ones, as the community comes together to enjoy the best Woodburn has to offer.
