Kennedy Class of 2022 graduation
As the guests drifted into John F. Kennedy High School gymnasium Saturday afternoon, Principal Dale Pedersen corralled the pending graduates in the hallways of the pre-ceremony staging area.
Pederson reminded the 35 Class of 2022 graduates that, while this is a significant day to him, it is an even more significant and memorable day for each one of them.
The cheery group of seniors appeared game, ready to flip their tassels from senior side of the cap to grad side.
The ceremonial vibe was buoyant, not atypical for the tight, homey Mt. Angel lot as the bleachers and gymnasium chairs filled in with hundreds of well wishers.
Woodburn Nursery & Azalea adorned each side of the stage, and the Kennedy 2022 class motto was etched in wood before a floral-framed section at one side: "Behind you are the shadows of what might have been, and ahead...the image of what we hope to be."
Attendees heard from valedictorians Lydia Berning and Spencer Bizon, along with guest speaker Serafina Sorensen.
Alexis Cardenas Ortiz received the Superintendent's Award, while Bizon and Berning were honored respectively as the JFK Boy and Girl of the Year.
