Appreciation for local nonprofit and continued discussion of accountability for Woodburn Police

Regional support for Thelma's Place appreciated

Thelma's Place would like to extend a huge thank you to the businesses and members of the community who participated in our recent GIVE65 Fundraising Event!

Thelma's Place was invited to be a part of this event by Home Instead Senior Care Foundation in Gladstone. With your help, we raised just under $4,000! These funds will allow us to purchase painting and art supplies to be used on Tuesdays for our "Memories in the Making" activity. Are you feeling artsy? Enjoy spending time with seniors? Call Thelma's Place in advance to join us on a Tuesday for an hour of painting fun.

In addition to art supplies, the funds will ensure that anyone with a need can join our day respite program regardless of their financial situation.

It is an honor to be part of such a wonderful community as Canby and the surrounding areas. If you would like more information on the services we offer, please contact Ellen at 503-266-5100 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Reader stands by comments about WPD accountability

In reply to the letter by Pat Petersen of Woodburn (see Readers' Letters in the Aug. 16 edition): Maybe you could do a better job of accountability and the supervising of 24 patrol officers because excuses and hindsight won't and haven't to this day. Respect, accountability and performance always start at the top.
