SPECIAL EVENTS

Woodburn Fiesta Mexicana — Aug. 3-5. An Oregon Heritage Tradition, the Fiesta is celebrating 55 years of Hispanic culture in Woodburn, including authentic food, crafts, and a parade in downtown Woodburn (at 11 a.m. Aug. 4), carnival, soccer tournament, live music, dancing and family entertainment. Located at Legion Park in Woodburn.

Butteville Store Dinner and Live Music — 6 p.m. Aug 4. "Hills and Hollows," will be performing their Celtic Roots music, a unique weaving of songs ancient and new with jigs, reels, and melodies of the Celtic lands played on Flute, Irish Bouzouki, Bodhran, Whistle, Guitar, Stomp Box and Didjeridu. Dinner and dessert costs $25. Wine and beer is for sale. Music starts at 7 p.m. Limited space, so call 503-678-1605 for reservations. The Butteville Store is at 10767 Butte St., Butteville. Woodburn Music in the Park — 6:30 p.m. Aug. 7. The "Hereafters" will perform party rock music. Performances are outside on the stage at the Woodburn Public Library, 280 Garfield St. Have a picnic or purchase food for sale at 6 p.m.

Summer Concerts at the Estates — 3 p.m. Aug. 12. Kathy Boyd and Phoenix Rising will perform the best of bluegrass in a program of original country mountain music. There is no fee, but donations will be accepted. All concerts are at Woodburn Estates, 1776 Country Club Road, Woodburn.

Fiesta Party with Live Entertainment — 4 p.m. Aug. 30. At Country Meadows Village, 155 S. Evergreen Road in Woodburn. Call 503-982-2221.

CLASS REUNIONS

Woodburn High School 50-Year Reunion — 4 p.m. Sept. 8. The Class of 1968 will hold its 50th reunion for an evening of food and fun. BENEFIT/FUNDRAISERS

Free Dental Care — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 6. Love INC of North Marion County will have the Dental Van in town though the generosity of the Rotary Club of Woodburn. The main services offered are for tooth extractions or fillings. We do not provide hygiene/teeth cleaning services. At the United Methodist Church, 700 N. Cascade Drive in Woodburn. Second Annual Mad Cap Golf Tournament — 8 a.m. Aug. 11. In this unusual golf tournament handicaps are out, and madcap games are in with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. This is a fundraiser for Chapter J, Woodburn, of PEO International. The funds raised will be given to local graduating women from Woodburn, St. Paul or North Marion high schools. Cost for an individual is $40 or for a foursome $125. Occasion at the Octagon in Aurora — 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 25. The Board of Directors of the Aurora Colony Historical Society hosts its eighth annual fundraising dinner that provides support for the museum operations and programs. The dinner will feature Indian-style salmon staked over an open pit fire. There will be food, wine, microbrews, music, raffles and a live auction. Cost is $60 per person. Reserve your seats by Aug. 17. This will be held at the historic Octagon building off Highway 99E, behind the Colony Store at 21581 Main St. in Aurora. For more information call 503-678-5754.

CLASSES/WORKSHOPS

Oil Painting Class — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 3 and Aug. 18. Instructor Judy Stubb, a certified Bob Ross instructor, will lead experienced and inexperienced artist to complete an oil painting. The Aug. 3 class will be "Rowboat on the Beach" and Aug. 18 will be "Waterfall Wonder." The cost is $60 and includes instruction and all supplies. Bring lunch or a snack. Bird Nest on Aquabord9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 10. Sharla Sevy will instruct this six-hour painting workshop of a bird's nest with eggs waiting to hatch onto an Aquabord. Step-by-step instructions will be provided. The cost is $60 with a $2.50 materials fee. Bring lunch or a snack. Class is at Woodburn Art Center, 2551 N. Boones Ferry Road. Shotgun Skills Classes — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 18. Oregon Fish and Wildlife will host this workshop in Gervais at Mid-Valley Clays. The cost is $12 per participant and is due when registering. FOR YOUTH

Woodburn Summer Lunches Noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, through Aug. 10. Lunches will be held at Legion Park (with Woodburn Recreation and Parks providing activities from 12:15 to 1 p.m.) Nuevo Amanacer (with Woodburn Afterschool Club providing activities after lunch) and Heritage/Valor (no activities). All meals will be provided free to all children 1 to 18 years old. Adult meals are $3.75.

MOUNT ANGEL SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 17 Monday through Friday, breakfast will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. At St. Mary's Elementary School, 590 E. College St. in Mount Angel. All meals are served at no charge to those between 1 and 18 years of age.

Cardboard Boat Races Noon to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 10. A new activity at the aquatic center. Participants will be given 90 minutes, one roll of duct tape and an unlimited amount of cardboard to build their boats. Then they will race their boats across the pool and finish with a boat float to see whose raft stays afloat the longest. Prizes for the top finisher and most creative design. Ages 12 and up. Neon Glow Splash Dance Party 8-10:30 p.m. Aug. 17. Join in for an after hours electric neon swim party. Open to students ages 12-17. A night with neon glow bracelets, lights, games, pizza, music and more. This year will feature a live DJ. Cost is $10 per person (includes at least 2 slices of pizza). Free Fishing Dates — Sept. 1-2, Nov. 23-24. Oregon Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) is offering free fishing weekends over the next several months. Oregon residents can enjoy fishing, crabbing, clamming without a license or tags. You can enjoy fishing for free anywhere in the state of Oregon. Fishing regulations and bag limits still apply.
