Middle schoolers honored by Woodburn Kiwanis every month from October to May

Luis Mendez Orozco

Luis Mendez OrozcoLuis Mendez Orozco, 11, son of Luis Bartolo and Maria Luisa and brother of Karina, is in sixth grade.

His favorite classes are math, social studies, literacy, ESOL, P.E. and language arts. His favorite activity is playing soccer.

His future goals are to go to college, get good grades and do something in the technology field.

His teacher Mrs. Howell wrote, "Luis is a hardworking and delightful student. He takes school seriously, is very respectful (of staff and other students) and is helpful to those around him. He is a pleasure to have in class."

Hilaria Trevino

Hilaria TrevinoHilaria Trevino, 12, daughter of Hilda and Stephen Trevino and sister of Miguel-Antonio, is in seventh grade.

Her favorite classes are language arts, math and P.E. Her favorite activity is playing golf.

Her future goal is to graduate from college and to get a master's degree. She would like to become a teacher and thinks she would like to teach the fifth grade.

Her teacher wrote, "Hilaria is an amazing student — she comes prepared to work, is incredibly studious and is very diligent when it comes to her assignments. On top of it all, she is a truly gifted writer!"

Angel Arreola

Angel ArreolaAngel Arreola, 14, whose siblings are Adaliah, Giselle, Adriana and Mia and his guardians are Juan and Nina Martinez, is in eighth grade.

He enjoys playing basketball, football and soccer and enjoys reading. His favorite classes are language arts, social studies and science.

His future goals are to attend Oregon State University and become a basketball player. He also enjoys art (especially drawing).

"Angel is an excellent student," his teacher Mark Lidtke wrote. "He always works hard, has strong discussion skills and has a great attitude about school."
