Christmas House Decorating Contest — Entries due by 5:30 p.m. Dec. 19. Submit entries to Long Bros. Building Supply at This email address is being protected from spambots. Include your name, address, phone number and a photo of your home or business and the preferred category: Nostalgic (most old-fashioned, or "reminds me of my childhood" display), Clark Griswold (excessive use of outdoor lighting and decoration), Anything Goes (no specific theme), Neat as a Pin (crisp, tidy, extremely orderly) or Business. Judging will take place the evening of Friday, Dec. 21. Homes will be judged by curb appeal only. Judges will not enter the property. A grand prize will be awarded for the best home in each category.

Grinch Christmas Party — 3:30 p.m. Dec. 20. Visit the Mount Angel Public Library for this party for all ages. Watch the classic Grinch movie while enjoying snacks and decorating your own stocking. The library is located at 290 E. Charles St. in Mount Angel. For more information call 503-845-6401.

Scene to Screen: YA Book/Movie Club — 4:30 to 7 p.m. Dec. 20: "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. Read the book, then watch the movie and discuss which was better. There will be fun conversation and snacks. This will be in the multipurpose room at the Woodburn Public Library, 280 Garfield St. 503-982-5252.

Santa Claus Party — 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 21. Get a picture with Santa, make a craft and share some cookies with friends and family. At the Woodburn Public Library, 280 Garfield St. 503-982-5262.

Santa at Mount Angel Library — 3 p.m. Dec. 21. Santa will be at Mount Angel library for photos. You can also decorate cookies, create an ornament and play reindeer games. The library is located at 290 E. Charles St. in Mount Angel. For more information call 503-845-6401.

LAs Posadas — 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 21-23. This free event will feature people gathering at different locations, to walk while singing Spanish songs to celebrate Christmas. At the end of the route, people will be able to drink agua fresca or champurrado and eat arroz con leche and tamales while kids break pinatas. Sponsored by Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace and Woodburn Downtown Association. For more information call 503-980-6320.

"Nutcracker" — 7 p.m. Dec. 22. Willamette Ballet Academy presents its 25th Nutcracker event at Canby Fine Arts Center. A full-length Nutcracker complete with full sets and costumes makes this a holiday performance for young and old alike Tickets, which are $15, are available at Willamette Ballet Academy in Woodburn, Cutsforth's Thriftway in Canby, or at the door. Ukulele Fans of Woodburn — 1:30 to 4 p.m. the fourth Sunday of the month. Open to all levels of uke players. Bring your uke, daily Ukulele music book, and music stand. This group meets in the multi-purpose room at the Woodburn Public Library, 280 Garfield St. 503-982-5252.

Men's Basketball 2019 Winter League — Jan. 13–March 10. Register by Dec. 24. Cost is $600 per team. Recreational league with referees. Games played on Sundays, 8-week session (includes playoffs). Mini Bulldog Cheer Camp — Week of Jan. 14. Register by Jan. 7. Hosted by the Woodburn High School cheerleaders, youth will participate in a three-day camp and get to perform during halftime at a home high school basketball game. They will be taught cheer basics, a dance and stunting techniques. They will also receive a free Mini Bulldog camp T-shirt. For K-5 students. Cost is $30 per child. Free flu shots — Sundays (6 to 10 a.m.), Mondays (4 to 8 p.m.), Wednesdays (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Legacy Silverton Medical Center is providing free flu vaccinations for everyone aged 6 months and older. No insurance is required. Anyone under 15 must be accompanied by a guardian. Shots are available as staffing and supply permits. Stop by the Legacy Silverton Medical Center's Family Birth Center at 342 Fairview St., Silverton.

Senior Book Club — 10 to 11 a.m. the third Monday of the month. Meet at Country Meadows in the second floor to discuss the book and have coffee, cookies and conversation. Books available at the library circulation desk. The Jan. 17 book is "The Sleepwalker" by Chris Bohjalian. Country Meadows is located at 155 Evergreen Road, Woodburn.
