Woodburn High School Theater will deliver its final performance of the school year, opening April 26

Beginning at 7 p.m. on April 26, Moore will be primed to play Captain Scott, a pirate, a British naval officer, a cat, a bird, an island native, and a mermaid -- all within the span of only two hours!

Wearing multiple hats will be one of the fun highlights when Woodburn High School Theater presents "Peter and the Starcatcher," which opens at 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, in the Woodburn High School Auditorium.

Starcatcher is the final play among this school year's trio, which carried the theme "together we will rise." Last fall the group performed "Black Butterfly, Jaguar Girl, Pinata Woman and Other Superhero Girls, Like Me." That was followed by "The Crucible" in February.

All three productions explore the realities of living in a thriving community.

"This is definitely the lightest, most family-friendly of the three shows this year," said director Caleb Thurston. "It is very fast paced and there are jokes that appeal to all ages -- so I am excited to offer that to our community."

Thurston noted that the production's 12 actors will play about 100 characters between them.

"They are constantly shifting characters, which is a big challenge but also a lot of fun to watch," Thurston said.

Thurston describes Starcatcher as a whimsical, Tony-award-winning contemporary play that upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be Peter Pan.

Another highlight is the use of ingenious stagecraft and the limitless possibilities of imagination to bring the story to life.

"I am also very proud of our set for this show," Thurston said. "It is an incredibly detailed, multi-level factory interior that serves as a backdrop for multiple locations. The set alone has built a lot of anticipation for the show."

He noted that marauding pirates and jungle tyrants mixed with unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, move the story playfully as it explores the depths of greed and despair -- and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

The production features students Dallon Jensen as Peter, Lesly Arroyo as Molly and Conner Williams as Black Stache along with a supporting cast and crew representing all four schools on the Woodburn High campus.

Starcatcher is scheduled to run two weekends, 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 26-27 and May 3-4.
