The energy was contagious. After playing Sharks and Minnows during the first practice, a young boy stepped off the mat and yelled, “This is awesome!”

The camp was also a great learning experience for Hernandez, who is team captain for the Bulldogs and placed fourth in the 5A State Tournament last season.

“I’ve had parents tell me how glad and happy I decided to do this camp because their kids were having lots of fun,” Hernandez said. “After every day ended the kids didn’t want to leave, but were excited to come back the next day!”

The Woodburn Wrestling Mat Club will begin a K-8 kids program Jan. 9 through March 6, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 7 p.m. For more information, contact coach Dusty Price at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
