Kennedy senior ends cross country career at annual Northwest high school race

Kennedy senior Kaylin Cantu capped off her high school cross country career with an outstanding performance at the 19th Nike BorderClash on Saturday.

In a field of the top 80 runners in all classifications from Oregon and Washington, Cantu placed 16th overall, and was the eighth Oregon runner across the line in a time of 19:03.5. She was also the top runner from the Mid-Valley area, including Salem and surroundings. The winner was Katie Thronson of Washington in a time of 18:17.1.

Cantu placed in the top 10 at the OSAA State Cross Country Meet all four years, and placed third in the meet the past two years. She has signed a letter of intent to run cross country and track at Western Oregon University.
