Adair wins district title in 110-meter hurdles, Verastegui finishes runner-up in triple jump

JO WHEAT - North Marion's Jarrett AdairJO WHEAT - North Marion's Mar VerasteguiThe North Marion track and field team will have a pair of representatives in Eugene this week for the 4A State Track and Field Championships at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.

Juniors Jarrett Adair and Mar Verastegui each qualified for state at the Oregon West Conference Track and Field District Championships in Newport on Saturday.

Adair qualified for state by emerging as a dark horse contender to win the district championship in the 110-meter hurdles by a fraction of a second.

The junior unleashed a personal-best time of 16.56 seconds in the final heat on Saturday, beating his previous best entering districts by almost a second and half. He needed every last step, surpassing Newport's Kai Daniels by 0.03 seconds in the finals.

Verastegui will be making her second trip to the state meet after finishing second in the triple jump with a mark of 34-08.25.
