Bulldogs' 114 points leads the state at the 4A level, is more than team scored in all of 2017 season

The Woodburn football team improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating the Junction City Tigers 54-20 on Sept. 7.

After going off for 60 points in the team's season-opening win against North Valley the week before, the Bulldogs proved their offensive output was not a one-week mirage against the hosting Tigers.

Woodburn put forth a balanced offensive attack against Junction City, gaining 192 yards through the air to go along with 159 rushing yards, the majority of which came from junior running back Dyontae Navarrete.

Navarrete had his second 100-yard game of the season, leading the Bulldogs with 15 carries for 109 yards and four touchdowns. For the second week in a row, the Bulldogs once against split quarterbacking duties between seniors R.J. Veliz and Nathan Corpuz, who combined to complete 8-of-12 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown.

Veliz was 5-of-8 for 86 yards, including a 31-yard strike to senior E.J. Barajas, and added 28 yards and a touchdown on two carries. Corpuz was 3-of-4 for 66 yards and a 23-yard touchdown pass to Veliz. Sophomore reserve Jordan Blem went 3-of-5 for 40 yards behind center.

Even the Woodburn special teams could not be kept out of the end zone after the Bulldogs blocked a Junction City punt and returned the ball 54 yards for the score in the first half. In total, Woodburn held the Tigers to just 138 yards of offense.

With 114 points scored in their first two games, the Woodburn football team has eclipsed its entire point total from the 2017 season and boast the top-scoring offense in the state at the 4A level.

The Bulldogs (2-0) return home on Friday to host the Molalla Indians (1-1) in the final non-conference game for both teams.
