Huskies score eight times in second half to beat Rangers for first league victory

PHIL HAWKINS - North Marion senior Edgar Lopez scored three times in the first three minutes of the second half against Estacada, finishing the game with four goals and two assists in the team's first league win of the season.
Despite owning a 4-0 lead after the first half against Estacada, North Marion boys soccer head coach Rafael Pelaez thought the team looked flat and knew his team could do better. He challenged them to do better in the second half.

"He told us that playing like that, we're not going to beat anybody," North Marion senior Andres Agabo said. "He said that's not how we play."

The Huskies responded in kind, scoring three goals in the opening three minutes of the half courtesy of senior Edgar Lopez as the Huskies went on to win 12-0.

Although the Rangers came into the contest without a win, Pelaez didn't want his team to take it easy. The Huskies had gone three weeks between wins and had yet to win a game against a league opponent.

"Coach said to never expect a team to be easy, so he said to do our best," Agabo said. "Those first 10 minutes of the second half, that's the way we're supposed to play."

Senior Edgar Lopez led the team with four goals and two assists in the game.

Junior Isaac Santiago and sophomore Jesse Garcia each finished with two goals and one assist.

Senior Rene Ramos and sophomore Johan Vasquez added one goal and one assist each in the victory.
