Undefeated Buckaroos drop 49 points in the first quarter, build lead to 70-0 before Irish score

The St. Paul Buckaroos enjoyed their most lopsided win in a season full of one-sided victories.

The Bucks (6-0, 5-0 Special District 1) built a 49-0 lead in the first quarter over the visiting Waldport Irish (1-5, 1-3 SD1) and expanded their advantage to 70-0 early in the fourth quarter before the Irish tacked on a pair of scores to end the game.

It was as complete an offensive and defensive performance as has been seen at the Rodeo Grounds in years. St. Paul run just 22 offensive plays in the victory, 10 of which went for touchdowns. At one point in the first quarter, the Bucks scored a touchdown on seven consecutive offensive plays.

On the other side of the ball, St. Paul held Waldport to -15 yards in the first half and finished the game with four interceptions. Ten different St. Paul players scored points in the victory, led by Francisco Vargas-Ayala's two touchdowns and 71 on three carries. Justin Herberger led the team in rushing with 84 yards and a touchdown on three attempts.

Quarterback T.J. Crawford was 2-of-3 for 50 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

St. Paul moves on to host Siletz Valley (3-1, 3-1 SD1) at 7 p.m. Friday.
