2019 Summer Sizzle will be held at North Marion High School tennis courts on July 5-7

The fourth annual Summer Sizzle pickleball tournament will take place at the NMHS tennis courts on July 5-7, bringing one of the fastest growing recreational sports to northern Marion County.

"Pickleball is one of the easiest games to walk on the court and start having fun with in a few minutes," organizer Mike Hoxie said. "Pickleball is a blend of tennis, badminton, and table tennis.  With an over sized ping pong paddle and a wiffle ball all ages can have fun!"

Hoxie is the president of Pickleball Is Great, the nation's second largest pickleball tournament management company serving eight states in the west.

P.I.G. has been coordinating the Summer Sizzle since 2017, and after steady growth each year, it needed to move from its confines at Memorial Park in Wilsonville to the six courts at North Marion High School.

Registration for the event is $40, plus $10 for each event for those who want to compete in multiple classifications for men, women or mixed doubles. The tournament has a beginner level of 3.0 and is split into over 50 and under 50 age groups.

Players are required to bring their own USAPA approved pickleball paddles, but everything else for the tournament will be provided.

Proceeds from the event go to help support the Wilsonville Pickleball Club, helping to replace worn out equipment, new balls and hosting winter gathering for members to stay active and fit.

Spectators are free and encouraged to come and cheer on the competition.
