School district will take submissions through Aug. 28, reveal name at homecoming football game

PMG PHOTO: PHIL HAWKINS - Kennedy High School is looking for suggestions to name its football/track and field stadium. Community members can submit entires at Mount Angel School District is seeking public input on the naming of its high school stadium.

Each fall, John F. Kennedy High School's stadium is the site of Friday night home football games and frequently the host of state playoff contests. In the spring, the stadium hosts several home track and field meets each year, and has welcomed a number of schools throughout the region to the state-qualifying district championship meets in 2015, 2018 and 2019.

But the stadium is without a name, and the school district is looking to change that with the help of the Mount Angel community.

The Mount Angel district has set up a website where people are invited to submit their proposals for potential names. The district is seeking names that "remember and honor an individual or entity that has made a significant impact on our sports programs and participants at John F. Kennedy High School."

Participants can submit their proposed name and reason why they chose that name. If community members prefer to keep the stadium without a name, they can state their reason for that as well.

Submissions will be accepted through Aug. 28. Those who wish to submit in writing can find the form on the district website, or go to 730 E. Marquam St. to get a form.

The name will be revealed at the Homecoming football game on Oct. 10 against the Gervais Cougars.
