WHS to host Chemeketa men's soccer playoff
Six former members of the Woodburn High School boys soccer team will return to play on their home turf on Saturday when the Chemeketa Community College men's soccer team hosts a league quarterfinal game against the Spokane Sasquatch.
WHS Class of 2019 graduates Osvaldo Barajas, Pedro Hernandez, Jesus Rodriguez, Salvador Perez, Edwin Silva and Jose Ochoa helped the Woodburn Bulldogs capture three high school state championships from 2016-18 and joined the Chemeketa men's soccer team this fall, helping the Storm win the Northwest Athletic Conference's South Region with a 6-3-1 record, going 6-4-2 overall on the season.
Chemeketa will open its league playoffs against a Spokane team that finished second in the East Region, going 6-2-4 in league and 10-4-4 overall. The two teams met in the season opener in Tukwila, Wash., where the Sasquatch claimed a 1-0 victory.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for young adults and WHS students with ID. Seniors 60 and older and children under eight are free. Chemeketa staff and students are free with ID.
The winner will advance to the NWAC Soccer Championships on Nov. 15-17 at the Starfire Sports Complex in Seattle.
