Seniors Peyton Knight, Rebecca Lettenmaier combine for eight top-10 individual finishes

COURTESY PHOTO: KIM KNIGHT - The North Marion Equestrian team placed second among small schools and sixth overall in the first of three meets in the North Valley region this season. The Huskies compete next in Salem on March 5-8The North Marion equestrian team kicked off the 2020 season in Albany on Jan. 23-26.

Led by seniors Peyton Knight and Rebecca Lettenmaier, the Huskies took home second place among small schools and finished sixth overall in the Meet #1 standings.

Knight and Lettenmaier combined for eight top-10 finishes in their respective individual events, and the Huskies added five more in the team events.

Knight led the way for the Huskies, placing top-10 in all five of her individual events, including a second-place finish in driving. She added a pair of seventh-place finishes in the hunt seat and in-hand events and two more strong finishes in the timed events — placing sixth in pole bending in 26.803 and 10th in barrels in 17.546.

Like Knight, Lettenmaier's top finishes came in the judged events, placing sixth in trail, in addition to a ninth-place finish in Western horsemanship and 10th in in hand trail. Lettenmaier finished just outside the top 10, placing 11th in the working rancher event and took 16th in pole bending in 40.014.

The two seniors also put together some strong finishes in the team events, placing third in working pairs and eighth in team sorting — a new event this year.

Newcomers April Revis, a sophomore, and freshman Katie Weidemann made their debut as well. Revis performed well in the timed events, placing 13th in the key race and individual flags for her top finish of the weekend.

Wiedman competed in both judged and timed events, placing 15th in in hand trail for her best showing.

The quartet also took home a second-place finish in freestyle fours and a fifth-place finish in team versatility.

The North Marion equestrian team returns to the arena in March when they compete at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem on March 5-8.
