The North Marion girls basketball team added two final accolades to the 2019-20 season after senior forward Katie Ensign and junior guard Mya Hammack were each named to the 4A Girls Basketball All-State teams.
Ensign, the Tri-Valley Conference Player of the Year, was named to the 4A First Team after posting averages of 14.6 points and eight rebounds per game to go along with 1.6 blocks and 1.6 steals. Ensign shot 40 percent from the floor — 30 percent from 3-point range — and 76 percent from the free-throw line.
Ensign was joined on the 4A Classification First Team by Baker senior Sydney Younger, Astoria senior Brooklynn Hankwitz, Hidden Valley junior Kaiah Fisher, and Philomath sophomore Sage Kramer.
Hammack was selected as an Honorable Mention to the All-State team, averaging 12.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists as well as 2.3 steals per game. Hammack was 42.5 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from 3-point range.
Like Ensign, Hammack was a First Team selection in this year's All-Conference awards after helping to guide the Huskies to a perfect 10-0 record against the Tri-Valley Conference for the second consecutive year.
North Marion (19-6, 10-0) finished the season on a 17-game winning streak, including a 37-34 victory over Stayton in the first round of the state playoffs on March 6.
The North Marion girls finished the season with the second-best defense in the state at the 4A level, holding opponents to just 33.04 points per game, behind only defending state champion Baker at 30.35 ppg.
The No. 6 Huskies qualified for the state quarterfinal tournament bracket for the fourth consecutive year. They were scheduled to face off against No. 3 Hidden Valley (23-2, 10-0 Skyline) before the OSAA canceled the remainder of the winter state championships due to the spread of COVID-19.
