St. Paul senior will make his first appearance at the state meet after leading the Buckaroos at districts

PMG FILE PHOTO - St. Paul senior Hayden Schindler qualified for the 3A/2A/1A State Championship meet on Saturday after earning an at-large bid from the district meet in Lebanon on April 1.The St. Paul cross country team will once again feature a runner at the 3A/2A/1A state cross country championships on Saturday.

Senior Hayden Schindler qualified for the state met after finishing 22nd at the Special District 2 championships on April 1 at Cheadle Lake Park in Lebanon. Schindler finished the district meet with a season-best time of 21:55.90 to lead the Bucks.

He was followed by teammates Aiden Daimler (29th, 23:06.20), Gage Cook (35th, 23:30.20) and Jackson Cook (38th, 23:48.90). Senior Broden Lear and sophomore Mason Cacka started, but did not finish the race for the boys team.

The girls team was represented by Nadir Cortes (50th, 29:59.20) and McKenna Olson (53rd, 30:22.10).

Schindler's berth makes it the fourth season in a row the Buckaroos have sent student athletes to the state meet.

The Buckaroos qualified the girls team in 2017 after placing second at that year's district meet, while Lear qualified as an individual for the boys team in 2018 and 2019.

The 2020-21 3A/2A/1A State Cross Country Championships will be held at Cheadle Lake Park. The event begins with the boys 3A race at 11:30 a.m., followed by the girls 3A/2A/1A race at 12:30. The event concludes with the 2A/1A boys competing at 1:30 p.m.

Due to the meet being held at a public park, spectators are allowed and there will be no entry fee.
