Huskies' 20-point fourth quarter rally falls short in 37-28 loss to hosting Bulldogs

But the Huskies would not go down so easily. After struggling to gain traction all game, North Marion ripped off an 20-point rally in the span of seven minutes to pull within two points of the Bulldogs before ultimately falling 37-28 in the annual rivalry contest.

The comeback attempt began with just over 10 minutes left in the game when senior quarterback Tommy Cousin opened an 11-play drive with a 22-yard scamper up the sideline to put the Huskies in Woodburn territory. North Marion gradually its way to the end zone, capped off by a one-yard push by Cousin through the line and an ensuing two-point conversion to pull within 30-16.

The Huskies followed with a successful onside kick recovery that quickly led to another score when senior Tanner Saucedo tossed a 37-yard touchdown pass to Gabe Mata on the first play of the drive. The Bulldogs successfully defended the two-point attempt to hold on to a 30-22 lead with 6:40 left in the contest.

But Woodburn didn't have long to celebrate before coughing up the ball on the third play of the next drive, which was recovered by Saucedo.

North Marion went back to work, using a pair of long runs by Saucedo and Marcus Ledesma to get into goal territory before Saucedo punched it in from four yards out to pull the Huskies to within 30-28.

On the two-point conversion attempt, Cousin rolled out to the left and appeared on target to tie the game before losing control of the ball as he was crossing the goal line, which bounced out the back of the end zone. The referees ruled Cousin had not crossed the plane and that the attempt was no good, prompting a pair of unsportsmanlike penalties on the Huskies that were enforced on the kickoff.

Beyer tacked on the extra point to put the Bulldogs back up by two scores with three minutes left in the game.

The two teams traded fruitless possessions on the next two drives, allowing Woodburn to wait out the clock and secure the victory.
