Bulldogs place second in district behind top-10 finishes from Cole and Ty Beyer

Woodburn shot a combined score of 356 behind top-10 finishes from Cole and Ty Beyer, as well as Jordan Blem's 11th-place score. The Bulldogs finished only behind district champion Marist (312), which remains the lone team this season to beat Woodburn in head-to-head competition.

Due to the truncated season, the district championship and league championship — typically two separate events — were combined into one day at Santiam Golf Club. The Oregon West Conference consists of the same teams as the Special District 2, minus Marist, Marshfield and Junction City.

Against their local rivals, Woodburn beat out Cascade (360) by four strokes to win the conference title. Senior Cole Beyer was the individual league champion for the Oregon West, shooting a 75 to beat out sophomore brother Ty by seven strokes.

Cole Beyer played a consistent game, shooting an even 36 on the front nine, including seven pars. A bogey on the seventh hole was negated on the ninth with his lone birdie of the day. On the back nine, the Wooburn senior shot eight pars, his lone blemish coming on a double-bogey on the par four 13th hole.

Ty Beyer's second-place score of 82 started with a birdie on the opening hole, though he followed with a double-bogey on the following hole, one of three two-over holes he shot on the first nine. The sophomore shot a 40 on the back half of the course, hitting par on holes 10-12 and finishing with pars on holes 16-18 to edge out Cascade's Ramsey Gordon for runner-up.

Blem matched Ty Beyer on the front nine, including a birdie on the par 3 eighth hole and followed with a 44 on the back nine for a total of 86 to take fourth place in the league standings.

Against the district competition, Cole Beyer's score tied him for second place, while Ty Beyer finished tied for fourth, granting both player First Team All-District status. Blem's score put him 11th overall for Second Team honors.

Teammates Santiago Roque and Elijah Leon rounded out Woodburn's scores, each shooting a 113 to finish tied with two others for 16th-place in the league standings. The two players shared mirrored scores, with Roque scoring a 55 on the front nine and 58 on the back, while Leon hit 58 on the front and 55 on the back.

Woodburn advances to the 4A state championship showcase on Tuesday, May 18 at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis.
