The Huskies had to battle back on the road, but they earned a 2-2 draw to finish as Tri-Valley Conference champions

MOLALLA, Ore. — It was a dark and stormy night, and the North Marion boys soccer team had made the trek to the Molalla soccer field in an attempt to complete the season sweep over its league opposition.

Going into the game, North Marion had won nine straight games against the rest of the Tri-Valley Conference (TVC) and wrapped up the conference title.

Molalla had other ideas, however. The Huskies found themselves struggling in the first half to put together momentum in the final third. The home team was able to really press its advantage and capitalized in the 18th minute. At the 18:49 mark, Molalla senior Anthony Morfin put the ball past the North Marion keeper to go up 1-0 on the league champions.

The Huskies tried to muster offense in the minutes after, earning a corner kick in the 11th minute. North Marion senior Esteban Campos had a shot on goal in the third minute, but nothing came to fruition. Both teams were slipping on the muddy field and passes were tough to complete.

At the end of the first half, it was Molalla up 1-0.

To start the second half, Molalla pressed its advantage. Molalla senior Evan Hugo got his team's second goal up close at the 37:58 mark. North Marion trailed 2-0 and was in danger of having its win streak snapped.

Six minutes later, the Huskies finally found an answer in the form of a Molalla own goal at the 31:34 mark of the second half. North Marion continued to press its advantage, taking a free-kick just over the goal in the 21st minute. But it was in the 15th minute when the Huskies got their equalizer.

North Marion defender Leo Mercado sent a screaming pass through the Molalla defense to Campos, who found the goal at the 15:14 mark. The Huskies tied it up 2-2. Both teams tried to score the decisive goal but were unable to make it happen, and the final score was 2-2.

North Marion (9-0-1 TVC, 9-2-3 overall) saw its winning streak come to a close, but the team remains undefeated in its past 12 games. The Tri-Valley Conference champions enter the 4A state tournament as the sixth seed and will face off against the 11 seed, opponent to be determined on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
