Woodburn's Santiago Roque earns four league honors
Woodburn football had its best season in recent memory, putting together a 6-3 campaign and finishing the season ranked 2-2 in Special District 3. The team was ranked 16th in the state and finished in the top 10 of Academic All-State football teams. Woodburn was also +38 in terms of scoring on the season as well.
For its troubles on the season? Woodburn saw three of its star players recognized for their contributions to the successful season.
Raking in four of the Special District 3 all-league honors for Woodburn was senior Santiago Roque. Highlighting the senior's haul of awards was being named Lineman of the Year, which goes along with his first team offense all-league work from the guard position. Roque also got the nod for his work on the defensive front, get first team defense honors. Finally, he received a second team defensive nod as a punter.
Joining his fellow senior with multiple awards was Woodburn's Tomas Veliz. Veliz got first team defense for his work in the defensive back position. In addition, Veliz was also second team offense as a running back as well.
The final all-league recipient was senior Austin Ramirez who received a second team nod for his role as a defensive linebacker.
