In 12 contests against Oregon West Conference (OWC) competition, Woodburn girls soccer team never tasted defeat, posting a 9-0-3 record. In fact through the entirety of its 2021 campaign to ultimately claim the 4A state title, the Bulldogs went an impressive 13-0-4.
Naturally, the OWC recognized the hard work and results of Woodburn with all-conference honors.
Woodburn senior Myranda Marquez was named Oregon West Conference's Player of the Year for her work on the field, in addition to a first team all-conference nod.
"We are extremely proud of Myranda for being named POY for our league for the second year in a row," Woodburn head coach Andrea Whiteman said. "Myranda has done an excellent job leading our team on the field and in the classroom this year, and so it is well deserved."
Whiteman was named Co-Coach of the Year, along with Newport/Eddyville Charter's Travis Leonard.
The only other Woodburn player to receive first team honors was junior Luz Rojas.
Four Bulldogs received second team all-conference honors, three of which held it down in the defensive third. Junior defenders Caitlynn Spencer and Alyssa Rios and junior goalkeeper Litzy Gonzalez were given the second team nod; in the field, junior Crystal Garcia received the distinction as well.
Finally, three Woodburn players were given honorable mention nods: juniors Thalia Monroy and Cassidy Garibaldo, and senior Larissa Fregoso.
Woodburn's state championship this year makes it two in three years. The Bulldogs won the title in 2019 with a 14-2-2 overall record.
