North Marion roundup: Baseball bounces back against Marist
North Marion hit a string of tough outings in the last few games. Consecutive defeats to the Hidden Valley, Banks and La Grande had the Huskies record at 5-4. But a rematch with Marist Catholic on April 7 helped the team right ship with North Marion earning a 4-3 victory in eight innings.
The first time these two teams tangled was the season opener. North Marion defeated Marist Catholic on March 16 in 10 innings by a score of 5-4.
The second time around was just as closely contested. In the top of the eighth inning, both Cole Boughal and Evan Holman singled to get on base. Emilio Estrada reached base due to a Marist Catholic error, and Boughal was able to score thanks to an error as well. Holman advanced to third. After junior Rex DeAngelis was intentionally walked, Wil VanVleck hit an RBI to bring in Holman for what would ultimately be the game winning run.
The team was led from the mound by pitchers Hunter Hansen and VanVleck, who combined to strike out seven Marist Catholic batters and give up just five hits in the game.
At bat, the Huskies were led by a handful of players. Leftfielder Emilio Estrada recorded two hits and a run in five at-bats; VanVleck notched two hits and an RBI in five at-bats; Hansen had two hits; and third baseman Dawson Schrenk had two hits as well.

"We're definitely still trying to feel some things out," North Marion coach Tully Wagner said at the Madras meet. "We're also missing three or four guys today. We'll hopefully learn a little more about each player today by watching them."
When hosting Molalla, the North Marion singles exceled with a 4-0 record on that time. Hurst, Alex Farrens, Luke Frolov and Andy Sanchez Alvarado collected wins over the visiting players. The doubles teams were swept on that side of the action.
