The tracksters continued a busy schedule against league foes in Colton; softball has lone game of the week canceled

Track and Field

The Gervais track and field teams made the trek out to Colton High School to compete against host Colton, Amity, Crosshill Christian, Kennedy, Oregon School for the Deaf, Willamette Valley Christian, Dayton and Grandview Christian Academy. The meet happened Thursday, April 21, and the Gervais boys team took third place with 22 points and the girls team took fourth with 33 points.

Sophomore Olivia Boyd took first place in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet. Olivia Boyd and juniors Izzy Boyd, Sofia Contreras and Lilly McCargar took third place in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 58.42 seconds. Izzy Boyd and Contreras took second and third in the triple jump, respectively.

For Izzy Boyd, it was a solid to follow up her appearance at the North Marion Twilight meet on Friday, April 15, where she took first in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 7 inches.

While no one on the boys team took first, there were a handful of athletes who made their way into the top three. Sophomore Isaiah Martushev took second place in the pole vault with a height of 8 feet. Fellow sophomore Gotti Ramon took second in the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, 7.5 inches. The 4x100-meter relay team of Martushev, Ramon, and sophomores Eremay Avgi and Joshua Santos placed third with a time of 50.48 seconds.

The Gervais track teams stay busy. The Cougars competed in the Meet of Champions in Sweet Home on April 23 and then travel to Delphian for a 3A/2A meet on Thursday, April 28.


Gervais softball's lone competition of the week against Sheridan on Wednesday, April 20, was canceled. The Cougars (1-4 league, 1-10 overall) will be back in action Tuesday, April 26, against Jefferson (3-2 in league, 6-4 overall).
