The Country Christian senior brings pair of gold medals to Molalla after a strong showing at the 4A state championships


Elizabeth Grandle, the Country Christian senior who participates on the Molalla track and field team, was a force at the 4A state championships.

The multifaceted track athlete claimed gold in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 15.68 seconds. She took another gold medal in the long jump with a bound of 17 feet, 3.5 inches; placed second in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 2 inches; and placed third in the javelin with a throw of 113 feet, 3 inches.

Grandle was the most impactful athlete for Molalla's girls team at the state meet. But she wasn't the only one there.

In the 4x100-meter relay, junior Paulina Beteran Munoz and sophomores Kadenlee Greer, Shelby Goetz and Jade Naylor took eighth place with a time of 52.51 seconds. In addition, Goetz placed 13th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:43.89.

On the boys side of the action, Molalla junior Brayden Cunningham took fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.19 seconds and fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.84 seconds. Cunningham also took fifth place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.48 seconds.

Cunningham, senior Cole Beyer and juniors Antuan Peterson and Gabriel Aasland also took eighth in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.02 seconds. In the 4x400-meter relay, Aasland, Peterson, senior Riley Reynolds and freshman Joey Cunningham took 11th with a time of 3:39.71. Beyer placed 13th in the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 10 inches.

Finally, sophomore Benjamin Suarez took 10th in the discus with a throw of 116 feet, 7 inches.

North Marion

North Marion senior Tony Lewis led the way for the Huskies at the 4A state championships. The triple jumper placed fourth with a distance of 42 feet, 5 inches and also took 11th in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 3.5 inches.

In the pole vault, senior Caedyn Laninga took ninth place with a height of 12 feet, and senior Thomas Bonser took 13th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:09.76.

In the shot put, junior Esmerelda Pacheco took 11th with a throw of 29 feet, 3.25 inches. Pacheco also took 11th in the discus with a throw of 85 feet, 11 inches. In the long jump, senior Jaedyn Bryan took fifth place with a leap of 16 feet, 2 inches, and fifth place in the triple jump with a distance of 33 feet, 3 inches.

North Marion senior Owen Alvord took ninth place in the 800-meters with a time of 2:07.59.


The Woodburn boys 4x100-meter relay team took 10th with a time of 45.34 seconds, thanks to junior Yahir Romero Garcia, senior Andres Sandoval, junior Kaleb Robles and sophomore Carter Pickett.

Pickett also placed 13th in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 10 inches. In the 100-meter hurdles, junior Caitlynn Spencer took fifth with a time of 17.24 seconds.
