Led by Giesch brothers, Newberg finishes top 10 against the best 6A harriers in Oregon

The Tigers boys cross country team proved that they belonged among the best teams in the state at the 6A state championship meet at Lane Community College on Nov. 5. Newberg finished in the top half of teams with a total score of 238 points and an average time of 16:31.

To the surprise of no one, Newberg was led by brothers Anthony and Zachary Giesch. Anthony finished ninth with a time of 15:34.5, and Zachary wasn't too far behind in 14th with a time of 15:45.6. Newberg's Zoltan Eszenyi finished 64th with a time of 16:38.2, and Caden Smith took 90th overall with a time of 17:04.1. Newberg wrapped up its race with finishes by Arran Kay (112th, 17:28.2), Michael Little (147th, 18:46.8), and Isaac Bikis (149th, 18:48.7).

Newberg also sent three girls to the state meet at Lane Community College. Dominique Eszenyi finished 82nd with a time of 20:31.7; Helmi Landwehr finished 10 spots behind in 92nd with a time of 20:40.1; and Abigail Wheatley finished 110th with a time of 21:06.1.
