NMSD releases plan for reopening school buildings
The North Marion School District (NMSD) has released its plan for reopening school buildings on Wednesday, Sept. 8, the first day of school for all students.
The plan, titled Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan, details the district's strategy for welcoming back students and staff to full-time, in-person learning in the 2021-22 school year. The district plans to provide in-person instruction for all students five days per week this year and will do so by maintaining health and safety protocols: wearing masks, physical distancing, practicing good hand hygiene, enhanced cleaning and other measures known to minimize the risks of COVID-19 transmission.
"We are so thrilled to be able to return to normal when our students and staff return to school," North Marion Superintendent Ginger Redlinger said. "We will continue to prioritize the safety of our students as we adhere to the guidance of the Marion County Health and Human Services and the Oregon Department of Education."
To prevent further spread of COVID-19, students and staff will be asked to stay home when they are sick, and anyone developing symptoms of COVID-19 while at school will be isolated until they are able to return home and/or to receive further examination and/or testing.
Students will enter and exit each building at one set of doors (two entrances at the high school). Family members will not leave their vehicles when picking up or dropping off their children. Visitors will not be allowed in the schools for the time being.
In addition, teachers will allow more breaks for handwashing, while no-touch hand sanitizer units will remain available in all buildings.
The NMSD's custodial staff will continue its practice of regularly wiping down and disinfecting public spaces and high-touch surfaces during school hours. Each evening, they will conduct a more thorough cleaning, again disinfecting high-touch surfaces like sinks, drinking fountains, door handles, tables and desks.
The district will offer a Virtual Online Program for families who do not yet feel comfortable having their students return to in-person learning. Students or families interested in enrolling in the online program should contact their school for more information.
The North Marion School District has established a webpage where families and community members can learn more about the reopening plan and preventive actions being taken to protect public health and safety. To access the page, visit the webpage.
