GMC Canyon Denali is a real working truck
The 2019 GMC Canyon is a serious truck. When equipped with rear-wheel-drive, the Canyon has a payload rating up to 1605 pounds, placing it among the best-hauling mid-size trucks. Towing capacity can be as high as 7,700 pounds when equipped with the optional 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine, and a standard tow capacity of 7,000 pounds applies with the available 3.6-liter V6.
The available Denali trim makes the Canyon one of the most luxurious mid-size trucks on the market. Heated and ventilated leather seats are standard at this trim level, along with wireless mobile device charging, and a high-definition rear view camera with trailer hookup mode.
Like all GM products, every Canyon has a 4G/LTE receiver that allows the truck to have its own data plan and to create a wi-fi hot spot inside the vehicle. In Denali trim, GMC provides a modern 8-inch touchscreen infotainment interface with onboard navigation. The GMC system supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, so you'll get navigation support even if you don't buy the Denali trim.
GMC offers three engine options. The basic Canyon is available with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes with a six-speed automatic transmission, but it is not available with the Denali trim. Most Denali buyers choose the 3.6-liter V6 engine, which comes standard with the Denali package. This engine produces 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Denali buyers may also choose a 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel, with 186 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Both Denali engines are available with rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive.
The Canyon Denali also includes a great advanced active safety package, with forward collision warning, lane departure warning, rear parking assist, and a full suite of stability and traction controls. The Canyon was awarded four out of five stars for crash safety by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
On the road, the Canyon Denali is comfortable, powerful, and quiet. GMC uses triple door seals and spray-on sound reducers on all Canyon pickups, plus special body mounts that reduce noise and vibrations. There's plenty of engine power available for driving or hauling, and the 8-speed transmission that comes with the V6 is great for keeping the truck in the best possible gear.
Best of all, if you get the 4WD, it comes with an automatic mode that works like full-time all-wheel-drive. You can leave the system in Automatic mode to get the traction benefit of 4WD all the time.
If you're looking for a professional grade mid-size truck this year, the GMC Canyon should absolutely be on your test-drive list.
