2019 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition offers practical utility and off-road styling
It's tough to make a mid-size SUV that stands out. These are the vehicles of choice for today's families, and the pressures of affordability and utility tend to make most vehicles in this class look alike. You might not have noticed the Nissan Pathfinder lately among all the others. Yet if you're shopping for a family SUV this year, you should take a moment and give the Pathfinder a closer look.
The 2019 Pathfinder provides seating for up to seven passengers in three rows. The third row folds flat to maximize cargo space when not in use. Nissan makes the Pathfinder with a lot of interior volume, so you can get up to 16.2 feet behind the third row, 47.4 cubic feet behind the second row, and up to 79.5 cubic feet with all the rear seats folded down.
The Pathfinder is ideal for families with several smaller children. Both the second and third row seats are a little on the small side for full-size adults, but perfect for hauling a load of kids. Up front, the Pathfinder offers comfortable seating for mom and dad, especially if you get the upscale Rock Creek Edition.
The Rock Creek trim is optional on the sporty SV and luxury SL trim, and includes blackout 18-inch wheels and black exterior trim. Inside, this special edition includes two-tone seating surfaces with contrast top-stitching. However, the Rock Creek trim is far from just an appearance package, because you also get a best-in-class towing package with up to 6,000 pounds of capacity.
The Rock Creek Edition trim is available on both 2WD and 4WD Pathfinders, but it's designed to highlight the go-anywhere nature of this SUV, so 4WD is really what you want. Nissan's ALL-MODE 4X4 system allows you to select 2WD for better highway fuel economy, 4WD Lock for off-road, and Automatic mode for general driving. The Pathfinder also comes with hill descent control.
The Pathfinder uses Nissan's long-proven 3.5-liter V6 engine. Other brands may post larger horsepower numbers, but the Nissan V6 is a punchy and powerful engine. It's mated to a continuously variable transmission, which does a good job getting power to the ground whether you choose front-wheel or all-wheel-drive.
Safety is always a key concern for family vehicles, and the Pathfinder comes equipped with a great package. The Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition comes with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control. Optional extras include blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alerts, and a 360-degree bird's eye camera system.
On the road, the Pathfinder is smooth and comfortable. There's plenty of power to pass on the highway, and great visibility all around. If you haven't thought much about the Nissan Pathfinder, it's worth your time to check it out further.
