2020 Ram 1500 Rebel is a state-of-the-art pickup truck
Ram trucks rocked the pickup-buying world with the 2019 Ram 1500. The new truck was totally redesigned and represented a huge leap forward for Fiat-Chrysler's pickup division. The new truck is more powerful and wonderfully quiet in the cab. It handles and rides better than the old Ram, and gets better fuel economy, too.
2020 is the second year for the new design, and the Ram continues to impress us. A 3.0-liter turbo-diesel has joined the engine lineup, offering 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque to the 8-speed TorqueFlite transmission. You can also get the base 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with the eTorque mild hybrid system. This is a great engine that won't make you feel like you're in the penalty box for saving money.
Finally, you can also upgrade to the 5.7-liter V8 with or without the eTorque hybrid package. We recommend getting the hybrid because it has distinct performance advantages.
There are six trim levels to choose from, all the way from the affordable Tradesman work truck to the luxurious Laramie Longhorn and Limited trims. One trim choice that stands out is the Ram Rebel. This model comes with a factory-installed body lift, tow and recovery hooks, and an electronic locking differential in the back. The Rebel is available with rear-wheel or four-wheel-drive, and you have a choice of a four-door crew cab with a 67-inch bed or an extended quad cab with a 76-inch bed.
If you choose the Rebel trim, you can select any of the available engines, but our test truck had the diesel. Like the comparable diesels available with the Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra, the Ram's engine is smooth and pulls with the force of a V8. This engine also delivers highway fuel economy of 29 MPG,
Inside, the Rebel can be dressed up for functional work or as a sporty and rugged activity vehicle. The basic 5-inch dscreen won't please anyone this year. Ram offers your choice of an 8.4-inch touchscreen or a massive 12-inch vertical screen. Honestly, either of these is a great choice, and you can get both with navigation.
On top of all that, the Rebel either has every advanced feature either standard or as an option. That includes goodies like integrated trailer brake control, blind spot monitoring, front and rear parking assistance, dual-pane sunroof, a Harman Kardon stereo, RamBox storage in the bed walls, and Ram's innovative side-opening two-piece tailgate.
There's a good reason why Ram truck sales surged last year. If you've been seeing more new Rams on the road lately, stop into the Ram truck dealer and find out why. We think you will like what you see.
