Volkswagen unveils updated 2021 Arteon luxury sedan
The upscale and luxurious Volkswagen Arteon sedan is the pride of Wolfsburg's product line, marrying the sleek design of a premium four-door coupe to the interior space of a midsize sedan. For 2021, Volkswagen will update the Arteon with sharpened design elements, interior refinements, and intelligent comfort systems. The new Arteon will also receive a simplified trim selection with SE, SEL R-Line, and SEL Premium R-Line options.
All Arteon models will carry a 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injected engine, delivering 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The power is taken to the front wheels through a standard eight-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic shifting. Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel drive system is available on SEL R-Line models and comes standard on SEL Premium R-Line models.
The 2021 Arteon will carry a more chiseled front end, with sharpened design elements. The new face of the sedan looks upscale, but it's also aerodynamic, with a drag coefficient of a mere 0.265, helping the Arteon be faster, more fuel-efficient, and quieter inside.
For the first time, the Arteon can also be configured with an illuminated grille. On midrange models, new LED daytime running lights (DRLs) connect to form a central light bar in the grille, surrounding the Volkswagen logo. VW says the Arteon "uses light as the new chrome."
Additionally, the 2021 Arteon will be available in three new colors — Oryx White, Kings Red Metallic, and Lapiz Blue.
The new Arteon benefits from a redesigned cockpit that is designed to project an upscale luxury and technologically advanced experience. The Arteon features a multifunction steering wheel with digital touch surfaces rather than moving buttons. The steering wheel rim features additional touch-sensitive surfaces that can detect whether the driver has at least one hand on the steering wheel, for safety reasons.
The 2021 Arteon will be equipped with the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, which allows the driver to configure the 10.25-inch instrument display. The driver can quickly and easily switch between three basic layouts using a View button on the steering wheel.
All Arteon trim levels come standard with the 8.0-inch Discover Media system with GPS navigation. Wireless charging is also new for 2021.
Volkswagen expects the Arteon in dealerships by next year, and will release pricing information much closer to the on-sale date.
