Kia reveals all-new 2021 K5 midsize sedan
Kia has revealed an all-new midsize sedan to replace its popular Optima sedan offering. The new vehicle will be called the K5, and will be available for sale this summer at area Kia dealers.
The new sedan follows the design look and feel of Kia's sporty Stinger sedan on a larger platform than Kia's prior midsize offerings. The K5 will be about two inches longer than the outgoing Optima, and an inch wider. The wheelbase will be 1.8 inches longer.
The new K5 will be available in four trim levels, including LX, LXS, GT-Line, and EX. A top-level GT trim will be the last to arrive at dealers, being expected this fall. The default engine will be a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 180 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque, managed by an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission. This driveline will be available in the LX, LXS, GT-Line, and EX trims. The base K5 is a front-wheel-drive vehicle, but all-wheel-drive will be available as an option on the LXS and GT-Line trims.
The K5 GT will include a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 290 horsepower and 311 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with a new 8-speed Dual Clutch Transmission. The K5 GT will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds.
Inside, K5 buyers will choose from an 8-inch or 10.25-inch high-resolution touchscreen infotainment interface. The larger screen comes with GPS navigation. A 12-speaker Bose sound system will be available.
As a family sedan, safety will be a prime consideration for the K5. Kia provides standard safety including standard forward collision warning and collision-avoidance assist with standard pedestrian detection and available cyclist detection assistance. Driver attention warning is standard to monitor inattentive driving patterns and sends an audible/visual warning to alert the driver. The K5 also offers leading vehicle departure alert to notify the driver with a chime when the vehicle ahead begins to move forward from a standing position. Lane following assistance is standard. Collision avoidance at junctions and blind spot collision avoidance and rear cross traffic avoidance are optional. Parking warnings and collision avoidance are optional. Finally, adaptive cruise control and highway driving assistance, and safe exit assistance will be available.
Kia has not released pricing information on any trim or options for the K5. Pricing will be announced closer to the release date.
