Volkswagen reveals all-new 2022 Taos compact SUV
Volkswagen of America has unveiled its all-new Taos compact SUV. The new SUV will be smaller than the company's Tiguan compact, which offers three-row seaing and is at the larger end of the compact class. The Taos will be 9.3 inches shorter, but will offer almost the same interior space as the Tiguan.
The new Taos will be equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, rated at 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. This is the same engine that powers the popular Volkswagen Jetta sedan. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be standard on front-wheel-drive Taos models, while those equipped with VW's 4Motion AWD system will use a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
A full suite of modern safety features will be available, including Forward Collision Warning with Autonomous Braking, Active Blind Spot Monitor, Lane Keeping System, Adaptive Cruise Control with a Stop and Go feature, Travel Assist and Emergency Assist. High Beam Control, Adaptive Front-lighting, and Park Distance Control.
VW plans to offer the Taos in three trim levels: S, SE, and SEL, and the model will be manufactured at VW's facility in Puebla, Mexico. Pricing will be announced closer to the planned release of the Taos in the summer of 2021.
