2022 Infiniti QX60 is all-new and ready for action
In today's automotive market, the crossover SUV is king. That means competition between manufacturers is fierce, and that goes double for premium brands like Infiniti. To earn your business, Infiniti has to prove they're a better value than heavyweight players such as the Lexus RX350, Volvo XC60, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and the BMW X5. That's a tall order, but Infiniti has delivered an excellent contender in the completely redesigned 2022 QX60.
It starts with the look. The new QX60 manages to combine the gravitas of a Land Rover with the performance look of a BMW. The QX60 uses the popular "floating roof" design that hides the vertical pillars and gives the roof of the vehicle a windswept appearance. Wheels are 20 inches in diameter, giving the new QX60 a bold stance. LED lights and a hint of brightwork here and there complete the picture. This is an SUV that will have you turning your head to look back as you walk away.
Inside is where luxury really counts, though. Most drivers will spend a lot of time in their vehicle, and the QX60 is deliciously comfortable with every modern convenience. In addition to fine semi-aniline leather, the front seats are heated, ventilated, and offer massage actions. In the second row, individual captain's chair seats leave space for a center console, offering spacious accommodation to four passengers.
On the dashboard, you'll find a 12.3-inch interactive touchscreen display featuring GPS navigation, and real-time traffic information. A Bose 17-speaker audio system plays your tunes, while a wireless charging system takes care of your phone. Wired Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay complete your phone integration for convenient connectivity, as well as Infiniti's own InTouch Services. You can buy a data plan for the QX60 itself and create a Wifi hot spot in the vehicle.
Additional tech features include a head-up display, 12.3-inch screen-based driver dashboard, hands-free automatic liftgate, and an advanced climate control system.
Infiniti does not skimp on safety, either. You'll ride with predictive forward collision warnings, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, reverse automatic braking, fully automatic headlights, including automatic high beams, blind spot monitor with lane assist, and a full 360-degree camera system.
Infiniti is all about performance, and the QX60 carries the brand's long-proven 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and Infiniti's Intelligent all-wheel-drive system. The engine is good for 295 horsepower while still returning 26 MPG on the highway. The QX60 can tow up to 6,000 pounds, and comes with automatic trailer sway control and a full towing package as standard equipment.
On the road, the new QX60 is simply delightful. It's got plenty of power but what you notice is how easy it is to drive. This SUV does everything well, with the handling of a sport sedan. Depending on how engaged you want to be, Infiniti provides its ProPILOT system, which offers steering and speed limit assistance, and even adjusts speed automatically when you come to a turn, curve, or an off-ramp. It's not self-driving by any means, but it's a nice feature for your commute.
All these features and luxury come at a price, but within its competitive set, the QX60 is competitively priced. If you choose the lowest trim, this SUV starts at $46,850, though our top-of-the-line test vehicle was quite a bit more than that. If you're shopping premium SUVs this year, be sure to check out the Infiniti dealer before making your choice.
