The West Linn Debs completed the first half of their season Dec. 5 competing at the Oregon Dance and Drill Coaches Association Category Championships at Rex Putnam High School.

The Debs qualified to compete in both the Pom and Kick categories based on their strong showings at previous competitions.

“Our Debs had their best performances at Categories” said Debs dance coach Karalee Kyloo on a Facebook post. “It was an honor for us to qualify and compete with so many other talented teams. We are proud of achieving so many of our goals for fall. On to state!”

Because only a handful of teams were competing in each category, only first and second place honors were awarded.

Even with a strong showing, the young Debs did not earn any hardware. TIDINGS PHOTO: J. BRIAN MONIHAN - The West Linn Debutantes Dance wrapped up their fall competition season by competing this past weekend at the Oregon Dance Category Championships.

To qualify to compete at the championships, the Debs had to finish first or second in a division by competing at a local DDCA-sanctioned competition held earlier in the season.

Each team could compete in up to four different categories including Kick, Jazz, Contemporary, Modern, Hip-Hop, Pom and Novelty.

The second half of the season starts for the Debs after the holidays with dance teams competing in smaller competitions in preparation for the Oregon State Dance and Drill Championships on March
