Middle schoolers try out for musical production of 'Willy Wonka' to debut in spring 2020

PMG PHOTOS: LESLIE PUGMIRE HOLE - An average of 75% of the middle schoolers cast in the spring musical have been in a producation before. It may have been a coincidence that the 26th round of auditions for the West Linn-Wilsonville School District middle school musical occurred the same week as both high schools put on their fall musical production, but the serendipity of the timing was not lost on Julie Lane and Cherry Weaver, longtime director and production assistant with the multi-school event for middle schools, nor musical director Kaeli Porter. .

Many students starring in the high school shows are alumni of the four-school musical productions. Three Rivers Charter School joins the WL-WV middle schools for the effort, which uses two different casts in order to allow more students to participate.

This year's spring show will be "Willy Wonka" and auditions at both Wood and Rosemont schools were "Pure Imagination." An average of three-quarters of the students auditioning were veterans of past shows.
