Summer camps cater to nature, ecology lovers
There are many opportunities for students of all ages to participate in CREST Summer Camps and Programs.
Camps and programs for students in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District are designed for kids who enjoy learning about science and nature, making new friends, and being active.
Farm Foodies - Berry Bonanza Camp: June 22-26 for students entering grades 4-6 in the fall. Learn how to grow various types of berries and enjoy cooking with them for a week of action-packed fun! Visit a local U-pick farm and make jam. Students will harvest berries from the CREST property each day and then make berry-centric creations in the kitchen.
Envirocamp: July 6-10 and July 20-24 for students entering grades 1-5 in the fall. This nature day camp is full of exploration, learning, and discovery. Spend the days exploring local creeks and forests, finding interesting critters, playing active games, and making new friends.
A strong camp community is formed with the leadership of dedicated high school and adult staff. The week will be spent exploring the main camp site, along with nearby natural areas on three half-day outings and an all-day adventure on Friday. Half-day attendees should plan to attend the all-day field trip on Friday.
Adventure Camp: 3 sessions available for students entering grades 6-8 in the fall. Like adventure and trying new things? Add excitement to your summer with a week of outdoor activities led by knowledgeable CREST staff. Ttry something new each day, including hiking to scenic spots, paddling, climbing and other other adventures.
On Monday, get to know fellow campers by playing active games and doing team challenges. The rest of the week, a bus will take participants to different natural areas in the Portland area.
Farm Foodies - Kitchen Confidence & Seasonal Cooking: Aug. 10-14 for students entering grades 3-5 in the fall. Get confident in the kitchen and learn how to cook with seasonal produce from CREST. Students will leave with a book of their own tried and tested recipes after learning cooking basics. Students will learn how to preserve, dehydrate, bake, sauté and more. They also will go on a full-day field trip to visit a local farm-to-table kitchen.
Farm Foodies - Flower Fever: Aug. 17-26 and Aug. 26 for students entering grades 5- 8 in the fall. Visit a local floral shop and learn tips and tricks from a floral designer. Students will enjoy one week learning about floral design and creating a new project to take home each day. All projects will incorporate seasonal flowers and succulents grown at CREST. Students also will have the opportunity to learn more about the global floral market and Oregon flower production. On Aug. 26, students will create over 100 centerpieces for a special breakfast, testing out their new skills.
