Closures in West Linn cause changes to school calendar, reopening plan
West Linn-Wilsonville School District will remain closed for a third day due to widespread power outages, and the return to in-person learning has now been delayed as well.
In a message to the community, Director of Communications Andrew Kilstrom said if power is restored to school buildings by Monday at the latest, then kindergarten students will have their first day of in-person learning Wednesday, Feb. 24, instead of Monday, Feb. 22. Timelines for other grades returning to the classroom have not changed.
The message said that because school buildings cannot yet accommodate staff for training and planning, the reopening timeline had to be amended for kindergarten.
Both comprehensive distance learning and the district's fully online program were canceled for Thursday, Feb. 18, along with limited in-person instruction.
District officials said regular meal distribution would not be interrupted.
The message said that while Portland General Electric continues to make progress, most West Linn households and many Wilsonville households continue to be without power.
The district plans to add instructional days to the calendar in June and replace primary and middle school spring conference days in March with additional instructional days.
