Stafford Primary collects 6,000 diapers for local families
Students at Stafford Primary School in West Linn collected about 7,500 donations for Oregon families in need.
From Feb. 21-25, the primary school held its annual Seats and Feets Drive, which invites students to collect new socks, underwear and diapers for local families in need. The annual drive is part of the school's kindness month, which teaches students the value of spreading kindness to all according to Megan Prior, a school counselor.
The school has held the drive for five years and each year spreads kindness to families at the PDX Diaper Bank, which provides diapers to low-income families living in Portland and the surrounding areas, and PTA Clothes Closet of Clackamas (facebook.com/ptaclothescloset), which provides clothing to school-aged children in Oregon City. This year, the students collected over 1,500 pairs of socks and underwear and approximately 6,000 diapers.
"A part of showing kindness and responsibility is caring for those around us, including the greater community, and we are proud to offer opportunities for students to participate in events that benefit our community," said Prior.
Prior said the school didn't set a fundraising goal but, by most accounts, collected more items than previous years.
"Stafford students are always eager to support local community organizations. Our students and families have big hearts and love a friendly competition for the greater good," Prior said
