West Linn Parks and Rec bringing back summer events after last year's shutdown

While they may not look the same as years past, two of West Linn's beloved summertime events — Music in the Park and Movies in the Park — are returning for 2021 after last year's shutdown.

PMG FILE PHOTO - Attendees relax and listen to the tunes at West Linn's Music in the Park in 2013. West Linn will host three Music in the Park events, the first of which will be July 29, and five Movies in the Park beginning July 21. Both movies and music in the park will be at Tanner Creek Park.

As of this article's publication, the West Linn Parks and Recreation department was planning for attendees at these events to register and sit in pods of up to six people. However, given how quickly guidelines can change, recreation coordinator Dawn Kolb said this setup was subject to change. Kolb advised residents to check the Parks and Rec website as the events neared.

"It might totally change by July," she said.

Musical groups performing include Dance Hall Days, July 29; Norman Sylvester, Aug. 5; and the CJ Mickens Band, Aug. 12.

Movies showing include "Trolls World Tour," July 21; "Playing with Fire," July 28; "Moana," Aug. 4; "The Goonies," Aug. 11; and "Toy Story 4," Aug. 18.

Kolb said the parks department was working with local restaurants that would provide picnic baskets for pickup on music and movie nights. If allowed, she'd also like to have some restaurants provide food on site.

Kolb pointed to two other events hosted by the parks department this summer: Pollinator Week from June 21-27 and a document shredding event June 30.

The parks department will host two Pollinator Week events at 11 a.m. June 21 and June 23 at the Mary S. Young Park Pollinator Garden. The shred event, where the department will accept donations for the West Linn Food Pantry, will take place at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 30 at the Adult Community Center.
