West Linn honors Mother Earth with myriad events and plenty of work for volunteers

TIDINGS PHOTO: PATRICK MALEE - Organizers estimate that nearly 150 volunteers turned up at the Willamette Park Earth Day event alone. West Linn celebrated Earth Day April 21 with a variety of partners, including Comcast, West Linn-Wilsonville School District's CREST program and SOLV.

The largest event included Comcast Cares Day, a corporate-sponsored volunteer effort held across the U.S. In West Linn nearly 150 people were estimated to put in a morning's work on the Willamette Park trail, removing invasive plants, mulching and planting natives. Comcast provided T-shirts, lunch and snacks for volunteers.

SOLV organized work days at five other parks in the community, including Mary S. Young, Maddax Woods, Burnside Park and McLean Park and House. Nearly 60 volunteers showed up at White Oak Savanna Nature Park, including 40 students and Scouts.
