Mary S. Young State Park will once again play host to the West Linn Turkey Trot at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving morning. The event — which is centered on a leisurely run or walk through the park — is free and no registration is required, although attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food for the West Linn Food Pantry.

"Last year we saw 504 trotters and collected 1,600 pounds of food," organizer Laura Jeffrey said. "With our new partnership with the City of West Linn, we are hoping to collect 2,000 pounds."

The City is helping by hosting the event at one of its parks and allowing for promotion on park property, according to Jeffrey.

"If you can't make the trot, we will be collecting food until Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the West Linn Library, Adult Community Center, City Hall, public works, the police station and Orange Theory West Linn," Jeffrey said. "Look for the barrels decorated like turkeys."
