A storm in West Linn early Thursday morning downed two trees and took out power in parts of the city, forcing Cedaroak Park Primary to close Thursday, Aug. 29. The West Linn-Wilsonville School District said school will resume normally at Cedaroak Friday, Aug. 30. No other schools in the district were closed. Parents are encouraged to sign up for FlashAlert at in case of emergencies.

Public works responded to two calls for the storm around 3 a.m. Thursday. The first call concerned a large fir tree that caught fire on Skyline Drive, according to Transportation Supervisor Jeff Randall. Rain put out the fire, according to Randall. Skyline Drive closed for a few hours but is now reopen.

Randall also said lightning spilt a tree on Cedaroak Drive. Half the tree fell across the road, taking out power lines on the other side. The City is currently working with PGE to clear the power lines and remove the tree from the street. Randall said it might take until around noon to clear the road.
