Jerry Gabrielatos selected as next West Linn city manager
After a seven-month recruitment process, the West Linn City Council has selected the city's next top administrator: Jerry Gabrielatos.
The council is holding a special meeting Monday, Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. to officially adopt his employment contract, according to a statement from the city.
Gabrielatos most recently worked as the assistant city manager of Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Prior to starting that post in 2015, he also worked for the Chicago City Council.
After a controversial vote to oust West Linn City Manager Eileen Stein in January, the council launched a nationwide recruitment led by Human Resources Director Elissa Preston.
The council initially received 63 applications.
The council narrowed the field down to 13 and interviewed 10 of those after three dropped out.
After the initial interviews, the council selected six to return for a second round. From there, the council chose Gabrielatos, along with Interim City Manager John Williams and Jim Middaugh from Metro, to virtually meet with city staff and residents for a panel interview.
After eliminating Middaugh, the council brought Gabrielatos to West Linn to meet in person and let him see the area. The council had further interviews with both Williams and Gabrielatos, then held discussions in closed executive sessions before making the final decision.
Gabrielatos' appointment won't be final until the council votes Aug. 10. A draft of his proposed employment contract can be viewed, along with the meeting agenda, on the city's website.
